hand thrown ceramics

About the maker
My name is Sherlyn and I am originally from Penang, Malaysia.
I always have an interest in arts. Growing up I started off with paintings, air dry clay and digital illustrations. During the covid pandemic, I moved to London and had the opportunity to pick up pottery, eventually found a new avenue to express myself.
What started as a hobby has now evolved into a big part of my life.
I make hand-thrown functional ware. I am inspired by brushstrokes and geometry.

Ocean splash mugs
Modern cereal bowls
Playful dinner plates
Geometric tumbler series
Geometric espresso cups
These are my latest creations out of the kiln.
After several iterations, I finally found a mug shape that I find aesthetic. I paired a tapered-shaped body with a rounded handle as well as a chamfered edge on its bottom. When the cup is turned over, the angle will disappear under the pot, leaving just a hint of shadow, This would make the cup feel lighter as if it's floating on the table - also known as a shadow gap.
